Fee Structure
Every engagement begins with a clearly defined scope and a written fee agreement established before work begins. No hourly billing. Clear expectations. Clear deliverables.
Traditional hourly billing can create uncertainty regarding total legal costs. Linda’s approach is different: the scope is defined, the fee structure is agreed upon in writing, and clients understand the scope of representation before work commences.
Predictable matters with clearly identifiable deliverables — including entity formations, contract drafting, operating agreements, employment agreements, policies, NDAs, and similar transactional work. Fees are quoted and agreed upon in writing before work begins.
Matters requiring preliminary assessment before scoping — including disputes, transactions, business separations, employment issues, family law proceedings, or regulatory matters. Linda consults, evaluates the circumstances, and proposes either a fixed fee or a clearly defined phase-based structure before representation begins.
Litigation and contested matters are typically structured in defined phases — pleadings, discovery, motions, pre-trial proceedings, settlement efforts, trial preparation, and trial. Clients are informed of the fee structure applicable to each phase before authorizing additional work.
No legal work commences without a written engagement agreement setting out the scope of representation and the agreed fee structure. This process is designed to promote clarity, professionalism, and mutual understanding from the outset of the representation.
If a matter evolves beyond its original scope — for example, if a business dispute proceeds into active litigation — a new or amended engagement agreement is executed before additional work begins. Scope and fee changes are documented in writing.
Initial consultations to assess a matter and determine whether representation is appropriate may be available. Any consultation fee will be communicated clearly before the consultation occurs.
Court filing fees, expert fees, government charges, mediator fees, deposition costs, investigators, travel expenses, and other third-party expenses are separate unless expressly included in the written engagement agreement.
For established business clients interested in an ongoing advisory relationship, Linda is available to discuss tailored outside general counsel arrangements. Any such relationship is individually scoped and documented through a separate written agreement.
